Challenges

One of the key issues that face the mining industry is product consistency, ensuring that only matched hoses and fittings are used is extremely important. A hose failure in a mining environment can lead to major damage or even the loss of life. Hose failures are most commonly due to the sub-standard product quality, general lack of control regarding operational systems and standards, and lack of proper training

Product quality assurance

All hydraulic hose assemblies manufactured by Pirtek provide the security of 4: 1 safety factor.

Pirtek hose assemblies have been tested and certified in accordance with the following standards:

Onsite Workshop and Full Service Maintenance Contracts(FSMC)

It establishes an on-site workshop to service and to initiate a formal maintenance and breakdown program. Pirtek manages and supports remote site hose assembly facilities which range from simple supply programs with provision of crimping equipment, small workshops, to complete supply of fully equipped remote site units, encompassing a comprehensive vendor managed stock and site support program

  • The site workshop will operate as per mine timetable and shifts.
  • The stock compliment will include hoses (dash 04 to 32), Fittings and adaptors. (JIC, ORFS, BSP, SAE etc)
  • The equipment in the workshop will include a P32 380-volt hydraulic crimping unit, a 380volt hose cutting unit, a skiver and a workbench.
  • The customer will be responsible to supply and fit the necessary 380-volt electrical connections for the machinery to be installed in the container workshop.
  • Pirtek staff will be auditing records daily to maintain the hose management system. (KPI’s)
  • Pirtek will assist in developing a standard product kit for machines to reduce downtime.
  • This setup is for supply and assembly of hydraulic hoses, complete strip and re-hosing projects require prior notice to ensure the availability of sufficient hose and fittings on site.
  • The workshop manning and stocking would take approximately 3 weeks to complete. This subject to the employment and induction of suitable staff to man the workshop

Mobile Services

  • Pirtek is the market leader for On-site Hose Replacement. Mobile Sales & Service Units are designed as Mobile Workshopsand equipped with a crimping press and cut off saw, capable of manufacturing hydraulic hose assemblies on-site to customer requirements.
  • All mobile service units carry up to 1.1/4″ bore, high-pressure hoses with a wide range of hose fittings and adaptors. Certain mobile service vehicles are equipped to manufacture 2″ assemblies on site.
  • Hp lubes offers a mobile service with qualified hose technicians for emergency onsite hose replacement.
  • Service vehicles provide 24/hour 7/day service for all mining locations to service your requirements.

  • Pirtek supplies hose kits meeting specifications for the working equipment.
  • Hose kits enable the customer to reduce downtime and achieve targeted production levels.
  • The necessary and required technical support is provided always and when required

  • Preventing unnecessary failures reduces The Total Cost Of Ownership (TCO) by reducing downtime, lost production, lost wages, lost oils and product and environment contamination.   • All Pirtek fittings manufactured in Italy by group company Intertraco.
  • Intertraco was established in 1979 with Global HQ in Italy. Every company in the group has ISO 9001 certification.
  • Fittings are marked with manufacture’s logo, ferrule series & size, and batch code for full traceability right back to the raw material.
  • During the manufacturing process critical dimensional points are measured with lasers to ensure conformity with the production drawing.
  • Plating used is based on Trivalent Chromium (Chromium 6 free), with fittings salt spray tested to cover 500 hours before red rust, that’s 7 times more than the SAE J%16 requirement.
  • One piece design (ferrule and insert are pre-mated and pre-crimped).

  • Abrasion resistant 6 times better than ISO 18752 standard nominates.

Hose Failure Reporting

  • Site meetings will be conducted on a weekly basis unless otherwise requested. These meetings will be attended by the hp lubes staff and the relevant customer staff.
  • The purpose of these meetings will be to provide feedback and also to discuss any developments, issues or problems that either party needs to be aware of.
  • Pirtek staff will attend monthly supply meetings to discuss any developments, issues or problems that either party needs to be aware of.

Personnel & Training

The Supplier will provide personnel for the purpose of training delivery. Training would consist of the following points:

  • Use of Pirtek catalogue
  • Identification of Pirtek hose fittings
  • Identification of Pirtek hydraulic hose
  • Thread forms
  • Pressure requirements relating to thread forms
  • How to choose Pirtek hose and fittings for your application
  • Installation guidelines for hydraulic hose and fittings
  • Training for on-site personnel of the customer.
  • Training of personnel at sites where consignment stock is located.
  • Training will be provided for On-site Hose assemblers personnel with a training register kept to assist with monitoring for repeat training requirements.
  • Training will be provided to customer personnel at the initiation of a contract and any other time where necessary.
